Valley High...The Last Hurrah!

By Jon Jefferies

The game was on Friday night, October 12th. The game
was played against a strong team from Newton, ranked about #5
in the state, I heard, and Valley was #6 before the game.
Valley won it 27-7 after a near shutout, Newton scoring their
lone touchdown in the fourth period. A really great game!

America the Beautiful, was sung by a lady who had sung it
at the opening of the stadium 72 years ago when the first game
was played.

I walked around on the field after the game and got those
shots, but know of no names, just the atmosphere. Several plays
from the sidelines were taken just to remind me of my old job at
the Spotlight and the yearbook.

I took a walking lap around the track and behind the
bleachers for us "Track" folks to reminisce. It hadn't been used
as a track for a few years as evidenced by the disrepair and
condition. Still fun to remember the laps I did with many others
so many years ago. It will be missed by us all whenever we drive
by there, just as those hallowed halls are now.

Thanks to Jon Jefferies for the great pictures
and commentary...just like in the ole days when
he worked on the Spotlight!

2001...did we look like this?
